Trini Talk#3: Nuh
Pronounced: nuh
As in: Why don’t you? or Isn’t that so?
Used in a sentence:
Oh gosh, do it for me, nuh? (why don’t you?)
But he’s a real fool, nuh? (not so?)
Come, nuh man (come on…) [most prevalent usage–the bf hates when I use this on him. It took him years to realize I wasn’t ordering to do something “now”]
Top marks for the person with the most inventive use of this, one of the most multi-faceted words in the Trinidadian English lexicon: “nuh”

“I dunno nuh!” - I really have no idea, ask someone else
Now add a “hmmm” before while propping your head on your left fist and glancing up to the right. You are now saying “I really wish I had the answer for that, give me a few minutes to think about it.”
Now take the “hmmm” and turn it into a “hmp” as in “hmp, I dunno nuh” and shake your head while making a face of utter disbelief. New meaning - “This is absolutely unbelievable (a.k.a. someting else) and I have no words for it!”
