Trini Talk#4: You not easy

Pronounced: You/yuh not easy

As in: trouble, feisty, spirited, but mostly trouble. As in you better stand your ground with this one.

Used in a sentence:

But you not easy, eh girl!

Note: If a Trini tells you that someone (e.g. a woman) is “not easy” you can probably bet she won’t be “easy” in the traditional, sexual context. However, “not easy” can be used in many different situations to denote admiration, apprehension, intrigue, in reference to a child, etc), in addition to the traditional, sexual one.

First person to make up a scene around “you not easy” gets five stars!! (my Trini dialogue is laughable and I have too much pride)

    I was scrounging for money to get in to this club one night, and this grrl had one of those ancient “lifetime membership” cards that they didn’t give out anymore, but would more or less get the owner in for free. She certainly wasn’t old enough to have one of her own, and to be sure, designated “Ryan” as the true owner.

    I honestly thought she had to be out of her rabid ass mind to think someone would let her in there with that card. Still, she walked up there with the confidence of someone who could, with a snap of her fingers, instantly have your job ripped out from under you, your face burned to toast and your eyes melted down into commemorative coins. Unless of course, you complied with her simple requests.

    So the putz behind the glass window is as bewildered as me, and wants to know how she could possibly have one of these in her possession.

    “It’s mine. I’ve always had it.”
    *looks at card* *looks at her* “….’Ryan’?”
    “…….NOOO. It’s ‘Ree-ann!’”
    “Oh! Okay.”

    And in she went.

    On retrospect, he’s a shining example of the mindless crud that walk the earth, who I have to deal with on most days. In cases like this though, I really feel sorry for them, because they have no idea how to react in such situations. And this grrl, she’ll run circles around your head so fast, and you won’t even know you’ve been had. Make no mistake, she eh easy at all.
